MOORESVILLE, N.C. — The combination of the rained out High Limit Racing Series event that was pushed to Wednesday, the ongoing silly season and the All Star Circuit of Champions’ Midwest swing set up some interesting driver pairings for last night’s events.
Macri Motorsports, which entered the Grandview event second in High Limit owner points, had Lance Dewease at the wheel at the third-mile track, with the team linking up with its new driver, Californian Justin Sanders, for Thursday night’s All Star race at Missouri’s Lake Ozark Speedway.
Dewease finished 10th at Grandview.
• Anthony Macri, who split with his family-owned team two weeks ago, was scheduled to drive the Indy Race Parts No. 71 at Grandview. But with the rainout, he had to head west for the All Star race where he filled in for injured series champion Tyler Courtney aboard the Clauson Marshall Racing No. 7bc.
Macri started 11th and finished 19th.
As a result, Bernie Stuebgen called on veteran East Coast driver Kyle Reinhardt to drive the Indy machine in a one-off at Grandview. He finished eighth.
• Stuebgen and Shane Stewart will work together for the 62nd Knoxville Nationals. Stewart, who drove the Indy Race Parts machine during Kings Royal week at Eldora Speedway, will be back aboard the No. 71 for the Aug. 9-12 event at Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway.
• Rico Abreu, who won Wednesday night at Grandview, picked up his seventh victory of the season. It was his first with the High Limit Racing Series. Abreu has also driven the Ricky Warner-tuned No. 24 to four World of Outlaws wins and one All Star Circuit of Champions triumph.
• Hunter Schuerenberg got the call to fill the seat in the Alex Bowman Racing No. 55 at Grandview. Schuerenberg, who was driving his second No. 55 car of the season, led the feature early and finished ninth.
• Ohio sprint car driver Cap Henry, who leads the standings at Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway, jumped aboard Mark Dailey’s No. 2md sprint car and finished seventh at Grandview.
• Danny Dietrich, who drove the first portion of the High Limit Racing schedule for Noah Gass’ Ran-No Gass sprint car team, which runs the full World of Outlaws schedule with Noah Gass at the wheel, opted out of his remaining races with the team to focus his energy on his full-time gig in the Gary Kauffman Racing No. 48.
On his home turf Wednesday night, Dietrich drove the Kauffman car to a fourth-place finish at Grandview.
• Kasey Kahne, who has been running a true Outlaw schedule this summer in the Kasey Kahne Racing No. 9, thrilled fans with a run from 19th to sixth at Grandview.
• NARC point leader Corey Day, who has won eight features this season joined the All Stars Wednesday at Benton Speedway and will run the final four nights of the Midwest tour, ending Saturday at Knoxville Raceway. Day was the fast qualifier in his first visit to Benton and finished second to eventual winner Derek Hagar.
• Hagar, meanwhile, triumphed in his first 410 sprint car start of the season. Running a limited schedule this season, Hagar has won eight 360 sprint car races this season — seven with USCS and one under the ASCS banner.
