schatz & gravel tied atop night 1 points

KNOXVILLE, Iowa — On a night when only 18 of the top 20 qualifiers transferred into the feature through the heat races, Donny Schatz and David Gravel emerged as the nights high-point earners during night one of the Knoxville Nationals Wednesday at Knoxville Raceway.

Both Schatz and Gravel wound up with 469 points, which is low when considering 500 points is the maximum that could be earned.

Schatz qualified 11th, finished fourth in his heat and second in his heat race, while Gravel qualified 10th, finished fourth in his heat and third in the 25-lap main event.

Brent Marks, who was one of the drivers, who failed to transfer through his heat, raced into the feature through the B main and ended up third in points with 462 markers.

Fast-qualifier Parker Price-Miller (457) and rookie of the Nationals contender Justin Sanders, driving for Kevin Swindell (456) rounded out the top five.
