2022 Maruti Nexa XL6 Exterior Review – Design & Features
In this Maruti Nexa XL6 exterior review, we’ll explain the XL6’s exterior in detail to help you decide if you should buy this 6-seater MPV. We’ll comprehensively explain the details of the XL6’s front, rear, side and boot, and provide an overview of the XL6’s exterior design. Please note that we compiled this review after driving the car at the media drive event.
Exterior Front – 2022 Maruti Nexa XL6 Review
The 2022 XL6 is a mild cosmetic update of the pre-facelift model, and hence, it has no major changes in its looks. At the front, it has a new pattern for the grille with chrome surrounding it. The thick chrome slat on the grille gives the XL6 a muscular stance. A closer look reveals a front parking camera under the Suzuki logo. The new XL6 also loses the long antenna at the front part of the roof. Instead, it now gets a shark-fin antenna at the rear portion of the roof.
Like the old model, the 2022 Nexa XL6 gets LED DRLs. Both the low and high beams of the new XL6 are LED reflector-type. The fog lamps of the new XL6 are LEDs too, but the turn indicators continue to use regular bulbs. The design of the front bumper is the same as the old model.
While we did not get to drive the new XL6 at night, we can assume the headlights of the new XL6 perform the same as the older model as there are no upgrades to them. The headlights of the XL6 have an all-white beam and we found its throw and illumination sufficient for the city as well as highway drives.
Exterior Side – New Maruti Nexa XL6 Review
From the side, the new XL6 has 4 notable changes over the outgoing model. These include:
- 16-inch machined alloy wheels
- Chrome detailing on the plastic element on the front fender
- Body-coloured ORVMs with side parking camera
- Shark-fin antenna
Other elements, such as the roof rails, chrome door handles and side cladding with silver finish, are carried forward from the old model. The 16-inch alloy wheels give the XL6 a more proportionate stance and they complement its side profile. All the body panels and body lines remain unchanged.
Maruti have also developed new low rolling resistance tyres specially for the new XL6. These tyres reduce the friction between them and the road, which helps increase fuel efficiency. We will discuss how they affect the performance and grip levels of the XL6 facelift in our drive review.
Exterior Rear – New Maruti XL6 Review
From the rear, the Maruti XL6 gets clear-lens type taillights with blacked-out treatment, which gives them a smokey effect. Like the old model, the taillights are still Volvo-like LEDs but the turn indicators use regular bulbs. The number plate continues to be illuminated by regular yellow bulbs.
There is also a new chrome strip present above the Suzuki logo that runs across the rear of the car. The rear bumper remains unchanged and houses a silver skid plate. The new XL6 also gets a roof spoiler, which was missing in the old model. The XL6 continues to get 4 reverse parking sensors and a camera. The spare wheel is mounted under the car, which can be unscrewed from inside the boot.
With all the seats up, the XL6 still offers 209 litres of boot space. It also has a 50:50 expandable boot floor. You just need to remove the faux floor of the boot to access it. This increases the loading lip of the boot, making it difficult to load and unload heavy luggage and other objects. However, it does increase storage space. There is also a small storage space inside the boot on the right side where you can find the necessary tools to replace a tyre.
The boot opening of the XL6 is 980mm wide and 710mm high from the ground. When the 3rd-row seats are fully reclined, the XL6’s boot offers sufficient space for 2 small bags. However, when the seatback are adjusted at 90-degree, the boot can fit 2 big bags. The XL6 also comes with the option of 50:50 split-folding 3rd-row seats. With 1 of them folded, the boot can store 1 big bag, 2 small bags, 1 overnighter and smaller pieces of luggage. We think that the XL6 can easily carry 4 passengers’ luggage when all 6 seats are occupied and 5 passengers’ luggage when only 5 seats are in use.
Verdict – 2022 Maruti Nexa XL6 Exterior Review
The new Maruti Nexa XL6 remains a more upmarket version of the Ertiga under the more premium Nexa brand. It looks more modern and muscular than the Ertiga, mainly due to its in-the-face front end, LED lighting and side cladding. The side profile, though similar to the Ertiga, looks more proportionate due to the new 16-inch alloy wheels. The new black treatment for the taillights also looks good. While the new XL6 does not feature any changes to its sheet metal, it is easy to distinguish it from the old model thanks to the larger machined alloy wheels and clear-lens tail lamps.
