Lamborghini’s “the Real Race” Esports championship is returning for the third time after its last season back in 2021. This year’s event is shaping up to be a significant improvement from the last championship, with a new tournament structure in place as well as the marquee’s brand-new Esports racing team ready to make an appearance.
The winner of this year’s championship will be offered a sport on Lamborghini’s Esport team. As a result of the firm’s partnership with the racing game developer KUNOS Simulazioni, “The Real Race” event will take place on Assetto Corsa Competizione. Drivers will pilot a virtual version of the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo Evo with the newer version of the race car only available during the three continental segment of the championship.
Unlike last year’s event, the opening segment of the 2022 “The Real Race” will consist of a qualifying stage, followed by a group stage segment, after that will be the “last Chance” stage, and the final segment of the championship will be the grand finale. The first open qualifier is set to take place from the 7th of May to the 13th of May, with the closed qualifier and race scheduled for the following two days. Competitors will be split into four groups racing on four different tracks. The Top 20 participants from each group will go through to the group stage. One winner from each group will be directly selected to participate in the group stage.
The group stage will happen over six days split across two weekends. Groups will be separated based on region. Each day will consist of one qualifying race and a final race. The top 15 participants overall will progress to the showdown. The first qualifier race will happen on the 16th of July. One driver per region will be allowed to reach the final phase in the “Last Chance” event.
There will be three finals which will be played in one day. The final stage of the championship will see 16 competitors battle it out for the number one spot. The person who was the champion will be offered a spot on the Lamborghini Esport team. It’s going to be a high-octane E-racing season, so be sure to check the championship schedule on Lamborghini’s website. Last year’s event had over 1 million spectators throughout the championship and saw more than 3000 drivers competing. This year, Lamborghini will most likely aim to trump those figures.
Lamborghini’s current Sports drivers are Jordan Sherratt, Gianfranco Giglioli and Giorgio Simonini. The team was officially formed earlier this year. Fun Fact: Assetto Corsa Competizione is often used by Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s drivers to practice for real-world races.
