The airbag harness needs modification to accommodate paddle shifters & other functionalities.

Caveats of Comfortline AT:
No connection is available from Stereo to BCM, and because of ACC, the slot is not free to insert a pin from the stereo; hence splice is required. I suggest using T-Tap from Nexdigitron.
- The Blaupunkt system provided by VW does not support MSFW. I could not find ISO to ISO canbus adapter.
- The airbag harness needs a modification to accommodate Paddle Shifters and other functionalities.
- Two wires from SW: One to BCM and another to the headlight switch (had to splice the red one) for the backlight.
- And finally, run the code.
I’d say get the right mechanic who is a pro.
So, I bought a used RCD 320 from OLX and an ISO to Quadlock with BCM wiring.
I know it is a downgrade from touch-screen and mirror-link (useless because the phone overheats), but it is worth it because the cabin ambience is now light years ahead.

This technical video will give you an idea of this retrofit.

Thanks for the detailed post – definitely cleared all my queries. Clearly, a steering wheel swap will not be as DIY as I had hoped! I will leave it to able-minded professionals to do it on my Polo.
