Alex Laughlin thought he had seen everything on a rainy day in Florida ahead of Gatornationals event.

The don’t call it the Gatornationals for nothing.
NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series racers see plenty of wild incidents, but Top Fuel driver Alex Laughlin had what he called “one of the craziest experiences of my life!” Friday at Florida’s Gainesville Raceway.

While waiting out a rainstorm that caused NHRA officials to waive off the opening day of qualifying for the Amalie Oil Gatornationals, Laughlin decided to bring out his radio-controlled boat and put it to the test on a sizeable puddle that was encroaching on his pit area.
And in a Facebook post he punctuated with “#gatoratemyboat,” Laughlin described how an alligator emerged from the water and chomped his boat.
“It’s a Friday rainout here at the Gatornationals and my trip to Wally-World for the RC boats and rain boots made the day! There’s about a 5-6-foot gator in the water beside our pit area where I was driving my sweet new ride. Well… Mr. Gator decided to cruise over and EAT MY BOAT!!! It snagged it, looked me dead in the eye, and slowly lowered itself like a submarine, then about 10 seconds later the boat porpoised back to the surface! I drove the boat back to the shoreline and it’s good to go!!!” Laughlin wrote.
That was about the most action for the first two and a half days at the rain-plagued 53rd edition of the NHRA’s so-called “East Coast opener” for the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series.
