The mid-size SUV segment in India is bound to cause confusion. However, with the launch of the Mahindra XUV700, a majority of consumers seem to have a clear opinion as the 7-seater SUV from Mahindra dominated the sales chart.
Mahindra XUV700 (6,040 units)
The Mahindra XUV700 has been an instant hit among Indian consumers. The SUV offers almost everything you want from a mid-size SUV. It offers decent space for 7 adults, comes packed with technology, and also comes with punchy powertrain options.
In addition to all these, Mahindra introduces XUV700 in the market with an aggressive starting price. Thanks to a combination of all these, Mahindra sold 6,040 units of XUV700 in March 2022, which is around 46 per cent more than what the company has managed to sell in February 2022.
Rank | Mid Size SUVs | Mar-22 | Feb-22 | Difference |
1 | Mahindra XUV700 | 6,040 | 4,138 | 1,902 |
2 | Hyundai Alcazar | 2,502 | 2,516 | -14 |
3 | Tata Harrier | 2,491 | 2,619 | -128 |
4 | Tata Safari | 2,227 | 1,919 | 308 |
5 | MG Hector | 2,019 | 2,102 | -83 |
Though Mahindra could easily take the sales figures higher, the recent semiconductor shortage has hit the production hard.
Hyundai Alcazar(2,502 units)
The Hyundai Alcazar is the result of Hyundai trying to increase its overall sales figures using the Hyundai Creta platform.
Since its launch, the Hyundai Alcazar has been performing pretty decent in the market by churning decent sales figures. However, the South Korean automaker could only sell 2,502 units of Alcazar SUV in March 2022.
This sales performance has resulted in a negligible MoM sales decline of 0.5 per cent as the company managed to sell 14 units less than the previous month.
Tata Harrier (2,491 units)
The Tata Harrier is a very important mid-size SUV in Tata Motors’ product portfolio. Moreover, the SUV has been very successful in the country by churning consistent sales figures every month since its launch.
In terms of sales figures, Tata Motors sold 2,491 units of Harrier SUV in March 2022. Though this is a very decent figure in the mid-size segment, MoM sales figures are down by 128 units compared to sales achieved by the previous month.
Tata Safari (2,227 units)
The Tata Safari is the flagship product of Tata Motors in India and it is the 7-seater version of the Tata Harrier. Like the Tata Harrier, the Tata Safari has also been a consistent performer for Tata Motors.
In March 2022, Tata Motors sold 2,227 units of Safari SUV in India, resulting in an MoM sales increase of more than 16 per cent as the company sold 308 units more compared to February 2022.
MG Hector & MG Hector Plus (2,019 units)
The success of the MG Hector laid the foundation for the Chinese-owned British brand in India. In addition to that, MG Hector has been consistently performing for the company since its launch in India.
Thanks to the success of the MG Hector, MG also launched a 7-seater version of the SUV called the MG Hector Plus in India. Together, both the MG Hector and MG Hector Plus sold a total of 2,019 units in March 2022. However, MoM sales figures are down by almost 4 per cent.
