Car design is difficult. Those responsible have to create something distinctive, but also acceptable to the wider world. Some very talented artists even create something truly beautiful, but then there are others that clearly struggle. Not everyone car draw a Jaguar E-Type.
There are some cars that somehow make it all the way to production with a face only a mother could love. Here are our top 10 ugliest cars of all time.
10. McLaren Senna
The McLaren Senna is an incredible supercar with aerodynamic performance born from the same thinking as its F1 cars. However, designers took a backseat for this model, with McLaren’s aerodynamic boffins taking the reins.
It is scientifically beautiful in the way that it produces an incredible 800kg of downforce, but this 789bhp performance machine is far from pretty.
9. Lamborghini Egoista

Designed to celebrate Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary, the Egoista is all about single-minded design. With just one seat available, this supercar is arguably the most driver-centric from the Raging Bull.
Just like other Lamborghinis, some inspiration for the Egoista came from the world of aviation. However, instead of a sleek fighter jet, Lamborghini designers took their lead from an Apache – the rhino of helicopters.
8. Pontiac Aztek
The Pontiac Aztek went on sale in 2000 and was instantly questionable in the looks department. Can you believe that the guy that styled this went on to design the Corvette C7? Nor can we.
It was one of the first cars to be designed entirely by computer, but that one must've been running Windows 95, because it's terrible. The Aztek was back in the spotlight in 2008 when it featured in the hit TV series Breaking Bad.
7. Reva G Wiz
It’s the electric car that people loved to hate, but in truth, the G Wiz was just ahead of its time – an ugly little thing though. From its stance proportion to those seemingly possessed headlights, they proved to be a bit of an eyesore.
Thankfully there aren’t too many of them roaming the streets anymore.
6. Mitsuoka Orochi
We have to give Mitsuoka some credit for creativity here, especially as Japanese designs are often said to play it safe. The Orochi sports car is a bit of a mess and looks like some form of sea monster that’s sprouted wheels.
Produced from 2006 – 2014, the V6 machine has remained an automotive curiosity.
5. Fiat Multipla
Without a doubt one of the ugliest production cars ever made. The Multipla appeared to be a cross between a hippopotamus and a frog. It was actually a very good car to drive and featured some very clever packaging to maximise space.
Fiat ‘fixed’ the design with an updated model, but this was criticised as being dull. It would appear that the Multipla can’t win.
4. BMW IX
There’s no denying that BMW’s new IX electric SUV features plenty of impressive technology, and indeed drives very well, but it’s far from pretty. Ex-BMW designers have publicly called it a mess and loyalists of the marque state that it simply lacks the character of a BMW – that’s all before we get onto the ridiculous scale of those grilles.
As an electric car, it’s a masterpiece of engineering, but as a design, this is a monstrosity.
3. Le Mansory Ford GT

The modification team at Mansory have been responsible for ruining a lot of excellent cars over the years, but this Ford GT has to be right up there with the ugliest. Dubbed ‘Le Mansory’, this monstrosity attempt to butcher the hard aerodynamic work Ford put into their supercar.
It would appear that Mansory thinks it knows better than the designers of a Le Mans racer.
2. Bugatti Chiron Mansory

Based on a Bugatti Chiron, famed performance car butchers Mansory put this 260mph machine under the knife to create what it calls the Centuria. A supposedly aerodynamic body kit has been installed with carbon skirts and protruding fins in a bid to tame the fast-flowing air running over it. Instead, it turns the relatively inoffensive Chiron into Frankenstein’s monster.
Beyond being simply ugly, we doubt Mansory have stumbled across some R&D Bugatti failed to look into to somehow improve this car’s performance. What’s even crazier than ruining a perfectly good Bugatti is that the price tag for such a criminal car is £3.4 million.
1. SsangYong Rodius
Let’s begin by saying that SsangYong actually makes perfectly passable cars these days. However, on their path to vehicles like the new Korando was the monstrosity that is the Rodius. What on God’s green Earth is it I hear you ask? It’s a cross between a van and an MPV that appears to have been styled in the dark.
Elegant, captivating, enticing. These are all words not associated with the SsangYong Rodius. Ugly from the front, nightmare-inducing from the rear. This repulsive design had its one shining moment of fame on an episode of Top Gear where it was turned into a boat. It’s a shame it didn’t sink.
