The list of top 10 best selling sub-4m SUVs is here and the Tata Nexon comfortably becomes the best selling SUV. Apart from that, the sub-4m SUV from Tata Motors also witnessed the highest growth rate.
However, Analysing the numbers, the overall sales of sub-4m SUVs have gone down and most models show a decline in YoY sales figures.
Tata Nexon (14,315 units)
Tata Nexon becomes the best selling sub-4m SUV in March 2022 as the company manages to sell 14,315 units in March 2022. In comparison, Tata Motors could only manage to sell 8,683 units last year during the same time.
This means Tata Motors’ YoY sales for the Tata Nexon has increased by 5,632 units, resulting in YoY sales growth of almost 65 per cent.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (12,439 units)
Though Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza lost some of its market share, the petrol-only SUV has shown decent sales performance in March 2022 by selling 12,439 units.
This has resulted in a YoY sales growth of more than 10 per cent as the company managed to sell 1,165 units more compared to March 2021 sales figures.
Hyundai Venue (9,220 units)
The Hyundai Venue has been a very successful product for the South Korean automaker in India. Moreover, the sub-4m SUV has also been a consistent performer for Hyundai in India.
However, in March 2022, YoY sales have slipped by more than 14 per cent as the company managed to sell just 9,220 units – which is around 1,502 units less than what the company managed to sell in March 2021.
Kia Sonet (6,871 units)
The Kia Sonet has also been a very successful product for Kia Motors in India. However, March 2022 sales for the sub-4m SUV have taken a 19 per cent hit compared to the 8,498 units sold in March 2021.
This has resulted in Kia Motors selling just 6,871 units in March 2022, despite being one of the most feature-rich sub-4m SUVs in the Indian automobile market.
Mahindra XUV300 (4,140 units)
The sales figures of the Mahindra XUV300 showed the second-highest YoY sales growth of 60 per cent as the company manages to sell 4,140 units of the sub-4m SUV in March 2022.
In comparison, Mahindra could only manage to sell 2,587 units in March 2021. However, this increase in sales could be the result of Mahindra XUV300 getting a 5-Star safety rating.
Toyota Urban Cruiser (3,079 units)
Toyota sold 3,079 units of Urban Cruiser sub-4m SUVs in March 2022. Though it is a decent number, YoY sales have declined by almost 3 per cent as the company managed to sell 3,162 units in March 2021.
Nissan Magnite (2,942 units)
The Nissan Magnite has been a game-changing model for Nissan in India. However, YoY sales have taken a very small dip as the company managed to sell 45 units less than what it managed last year during the same time.
In terms of numbers, Nissan sold 2,942 units in March 2022 and 2,987 units in March 2021, resulting in a YoY sales decline of 1.5 per cent.
Renault Kiger (2,496 units)
Though Renault Kiger is almost identical to the Nissan Magnite under the skin, sales of the Kiger has dipped by more than 34 per cent as the French automaker managed to sell just 2,496 units in March 2022.
Honda WR-V (251 units)
Honda WR-V has witnessed the highest decline in YoY sales. The sub-4m SUV from the Japanese automaker sold just 251 units in March 2022, resulting in a YoY sales decline of more than 74 per cent.
Ford EcoSport (0 units)
Ford has quit its operations in India and it is tough to see the end of such a brilliant sub-4m SUV like this. Moreover, the Ford EcoSport has quite a fan following in India thanks to its brilliant driving dynamics and punchy yet efficient powertrains.
Thoughts About Sub-4m SUV Segment In India
March 2022 witnessed a sale of 55,753 units of sub-4m SUVs in India, resulting in a YoY sales decline of 4 per cent. However, we expect this segment to bounce back stronger as the segment itself is a favourite among Indian consumers.
