The countdown has finally begun to the 2022 Simola Hillclimb, arguably South Africa’s premier motoring event.
Set to take place from the 6th to the 8th of Mat, the highly anticipated 12th edition of the event has made provision for just 3 300 spectators in line with government’s COVID-19 regulations. Vaccination certificates or negative PCR tests will be required for entry.
Ian Shrosbree, MD of Knysna Speed Festival, which owns and runs the Simola Hillclimb said, “We are looking forward to once again having spectators at the Simola Hillclimb, as they are such an important part of the event.
“Although we managed to put on a good show last year, including lifting the game as far as our livestream of the entire event was concerned, it didn’t have the atmosphere and excitement that comes with having enthusiasts and fans present.”
Fans who purchased tickets for the 2020 event and did not request a refund will have their tickets honoured this year. Shrosbree adds, “We are extremely grateful to these fans who have been so patient over the past two years waiting for the opportunity to make use of their tickets. Their support helped the event survive and we owe them a great deal of thanks.”
There’s a ticket available for everyone, from R150/day General access tickets to all-inclusive three-day VIP passes at R7 500 per person.
Good news is that this year’s event will be livestreamed on the Simola Hillclimb website and Facebook page. Additionally, SABC Sport enters its second year as the national free-to-air broadcast partner, and will provide live coverage and regular crossings.
