Can you truly find a cheap sportscar? We find out!
Sweet little number
A sports car is considered anything with two doors and a low silhouette. By their very nature, they are meant for speed and dynamic driving and are bristling with tech and luxury design. This means that sports cars are normally an expensive purchase, with most new models easily exceeding the million rand mark.
The question of what cheap sports cars you can get is rather moot, so we decide to take a look at what type of second-hand models you can pick up on AutoTrader
1 Million+
New cars in this segment are very easily going to approach the 10 million mark, but a prudent shopper may find a good used bargain. We found very clean examples of Porsche 911 and Taycan. We also found a very neat Audi R8 V10 and Jaguar F Type, but the Germans surprised with a heady mix of new and used M cars and Mercedes-AMG models.
1 Million – 750K
In this segment, you will find a number of the older and less clean examples of the above as well as a host of fairly new used Ford Mustang’s and Toyota Supra’s. Slightly rarer models such as the Porsche 718 and Audi RS cars also pop up from time to time.
750k – 500K
This is the segment where most of the action happens as you will find examples of everything from the above segments but also a healthy mix of new and used vehicles. Here roadsters such as the Mazda MX-5, Toyota GT86 and Audi TT rub shoulders with used M Cars and Porsches
500k- 250K
When shopping in this segment caution is advised as sportscars here will have high mileage or will be much older, and you will definitely want one that has been well taken care of. Parts become harder to find and services become expensive.
