Indian carmaker Tata Motors has released its sales numbers for the month of April 2022. Tata Motors sold a total of 72,468 units in the month of April 2022, a 74 per cent increase when compared to the same month in 2021.
In terms of total domestic sales, Tata sold a total of 71,467 units in April 2022. Tata Motors’ domestic Year-over-Year (Y-o-Y) sales grew by 81 per cent (32,066 units) compared to April 2021 when it only sold 39,401 units.

Passenger vehicle sales in April accounted for 41,587 units. This was a 66 per cent Y-o-Y increase (16,492 units) over the carmaker’s domestic PV sales from April 2021 when it sold only 25,095 units.
The domestic passenger vehicle sales included 39,265 units of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines (ICE). This was an increase of 60 per cent (14,751 units) over April 2021 when Tata Motors sold a total of 24,514 units of ICE passenger vehicles.
Tata’s EV passenger EV division was the biggest gainer in terms of percentages rising by an astonishing 300%. In April 2022, Tata Motors sold a total of 2,322 pure electric passenger vehicles compared to just 581 units over the same period of time in 2021. Compared to April 2021, Tata sold 1,741 more EVs in India last month as it cemented its place at the top of the electric car market in India.

Tata Motors sold a total of 29,880 Commercial Vehicles in the Indian market. Domestic commercial vehicle sales for Tata Motors rose by 109 per cent (15,574 units) Y-o-Y compared to April 2021 when the Mumbai-based carmaker sold a total of 14,306 unis. Exports of commercial vehicles, however, dropped 57 per cent to just 958 units in April 2022 from April 2021’s figures of 2,209 units.

Thoughts On Tata Motors’ Sales Performance In April 2022
Tata Motors is growing from strength to strength and is now closing in on Hyundai’s second spot in terms of total passenger vehicle sales. With its commercial vehicle sales also booming and its spot on top of the EV car market cemented, Tata Motors seems to have fully recovered from the ravages of the pandemic that plagued the world last year.
