The Tata Nexon is India’s best selling electric vehicle and the carmaker had recently announced that its electric SUV had crossed the 13,500 unit sales mark in January. The Nexon EV was first launched in January of 2020 and despite having to put up with the chip shortage and the covid pandemic, it has become the success story of the Indian electric car market.
In April 2021, Tata had announced that the Nexon EV had breached the 4,000 unit sales mark. In the nine months that followed, a flurry of orders over a thousand units of the EV leaving Tata showrooms across India every month. With people slowly but surely shifting towards electric propulsion, we expect sales numbers of the Nexon EV to continue rising, despite the price hike.
The Tata Nexon EV draws power from a 30.2kWh battery pack which the carmaker claims gives the electric SUV a range of 312 kilometres. The Nexon’s battery pack powers a single electric motor that produces 127bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. This power and torque Tata Motors claims allows the front-wheel-drive Nexon EV to sprint from 0-100km/h in 9.14 seconds.
The Nexon EV supports the 25kW fast DC charging standard which Tata Motors claims allows the electric SUV to top up its batteries from 0 to 80 per cent in just one hour. The included charger allows owners to top up their Nexon EVs at home and supports 3.3kW AC charging.
Tata Motors though is not content to rest on its laurels and is expected to bring out a new version of the Nexon EV later this year. The new Tata Nexon EV is expected to carry a larger battery pack for better range among other upgrades.
Thoughts On The Tata Nexon EV Price Hike
The hike in prices of the Tata Nexon EV is not something we anticipated but with the current situation in Europe, we can’t really complain about it. Hopefully, the Nexon will continue to show the path for electric cars in India as it has done since its launch two years ago and we’ll see a lot more electric vehicles on our roads in the future.
