You’ve probably heard of Brabus before but if not it’s a company most famous for taking fast Mercedes cars and tuning them into time-bending monsters. Or monstrosities, depending on your view. This latest Brabus, called the Rocket 900, will stretch the will of even the most hardened company evangelist. Look at the state of it, man.
Still, there’s method behind this aesthetic madness. Ish. The Brabus Rocket 900 has 888bhp (900 being its metric horsepower figure) and a staggering 1250Nm of torque from a 4.5-litre V8 twin-turbo engine. Oh, and it’ll cost you about £400,000 before tax.
Still, if you spend that – twice the price of a Ferrari F8 Tributo – you’ll be buying into genuine exclusivity. Only ten will be made worldwide. Possibly because after that the world’s entire carbon fibre resource will be depleted.
And while we’re sure that at least some of the body kit is basically just visual flossing, the great majority of it is designed to tame all that power. Tame it as in, get as much of it as possible down onto the ground.
First though, let’s talk a bit about how the power is achieved. Under all those add-ons is a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+, which as ‘standard’ has 510bhp, hits 193mph and gets to 62mph in 3.8 seconds. Imagine, then, how quick this thing is. No need, because we can tell you. It will get to 205mph and on the way there hit 62mph in 2.8 seconds, and 124mph in 9.3.
The AMG GT has a 4.0-litre block as standard but Brabus has hollowed out the cylinders a bit to bump that to 4.5. It’s also uprated the pistons and the crankshaft, swapped out the turbos for bigger ones, replaced the air intake for one made of carbon fibre, and replaced the entire exhaust system.
The brakes have been given a bump, natch. They’re both bigger and fashioned from carbon-ceramic material for fade-free track use. The suspension is 25mm lower than the stock AMG GT’s, and the bespoke wheels are 21 inches at the front and 22 inches at the rear.
Those looks then. Like we said it’s all for good reason, mainly to aid stability at high speed, improve cornering downforce, and force more air towards the brakes to help cool them. The majority of it is made from carbon fibre to avoid adding too much weight to the car.
And finally the interior. It’s…interesting, no? the Trimmed in Alcantara and with custom red accenting, it features reupholstered chairs in quilted leather, backlit tread plates and a new Brabus drive select nubbin.
Order one now if you like. First come first served, apparently. LOL.
