Clay Millican shows you how in this video.
Surely you have said these very words to yourself countless times while lurking about the pits and the paddock at a drag race: “Aw heck, I could drive one of them dragsters! All ya gotta do is stomp on the throttle an’ keep steerin’!”
Turns out there’s more to it than that. Lifetime drag racer Clay Millican, currently running fifth in NHRA Top Fuel, knows exactly how much more and has put it all into a single, handy video. The tutorial will be helpful should you find yourself in one of those Quantum Leap moments where you are transported into the seat of a dragster and all of a sudden have to drive it yourself. Or if you just want to know how many things you have to keep straight before you stomp on the gas.
And Millican doesn’t even go into all the things you’d have to do before you found yourself in the cockpit, like garnering a lifetime of drag racing experience, finding big-money sponsors, and lining up a top-notch crew chief and crew.
What the video shows you is what exactly happens out there when the dragster is coming up to the line, doing the burnout and then launching off into space. And even some of that is glossed over, such as how to “peddle” the car if something goes wrong, how to keep it going straight, how to keep from passing out, etc.
Click on the vid to see what Professor Millican can teach you. It’s quite interesting. Then go get that lifetime of experience and a big trailerful of sponsors. Class dismissed.
