The Skoda Slavia is one of the most-awaited models in India and the Czech brand may commence the test drive of the upcoming sedan by the end of February. Apart from that, the upcoming sedan is available for display in a few showrooms in India.
According to sources, the enquiries for the Skoda Slavia at the showroom level is strong and the Czech brand has high expectations for the Rapid replacement in the Indian automotive market.
Previously, Zac Hollis – Director, Sales and Marketing for Skoda Auto India also revealed the delivery timeline for the Skoda Slavia in India. The delivery timeline for the Skoda Slavia was revealed via a tweet. According to Mr Hollis, the deliveries of the Skoda Slavia will commence by early March.
Speaking about the Skoda Slavia, it is the upcoming replacement sedan for the Skoda Rapid in India and it is the Czech brand’s second model in India to be built under the ‘India 2.0’ strategy.
According to Skoda Auto India, under India 2.0 strategy, the Czech automotive brand aims to set up a profitable business in the country by aggressively localising the production of its products in the country.
Speaking about production, the Skoda Slavia is manufactured at the Skoda’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Chakan, Pune and the Czech brand has already commenced the production of the sedan in the country.
Though the Skoda Slavia will soon replace the ageing Skoda Rapid sedan in India, the Skoda Slavia is a size bigger than the Skoda Rapid and will have the longest wheelbase in its segment, thanks to its versatile MQB-A0-IN platform which also happens to underpin the Skoda Kushaq SUV.
Since the upcoming Skoda Slavia and the recently launched Skoda Kushaq use an identical platform, the Skoda Slavia also uses the same powertrain options as the Skoda Kushaq SUV.
This means the upcoming Skoda Slavia will come with the frugal 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine with 113bhp and 178NM of torque and a more potent 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with 148bhp and 250Nm of torque.
Like the Skoda Kushaq, the upcoming Skoda Slavia will also get the 6-speed manual transmission with both engine options and the more potent 1.5-litre TSI engine will get the 7-speed DSG transmission as an option, whereas the 1.0-litre version will get a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Thanks to the MQB-A0 IN platform and the longest wheelbase in its segment, we expect the upcoming Skoda Slavia to come with good interior space and high ground clearance.
Moreover, Skoda Auto India has also released a 1-minute video that revealed a few key features of the upcoming Skoda Slavia sedan. As per the latest videos shared by Skoda, the upcoming Slavia sedan comes equipped with features such as an 8-inch fully digital driver display, ventilated front seats, wireless charger, Cruise Control, rain-sensing wipers, two USB-C ports at the front, climate control, rear AC vents, keyless entry, LED headlamps and many more.
Thoughts About Skoda Slavia
The Skoda Slavia is expected to further boost the sales of the Czech brand in India and we expect the upcoming sedan to be equally rewarding to drive and chauffeured around.
