Skoda had been struggling to get traction in India for quite some time and the launch of the Skoda Kushaq has been a game-changer for the Czech car manufacturer in India.
The Skoda Kushaq is the first vehicle under the Volkswagen Group to be manufactured in India with the India 2.0 business strategy in place.
Thanks to this aggressive business strategy by the Volkswagen Group, 95 per cent of the 5-seater mid-size SUV is manufactured locally to cut production costs and increase profits for the automaker.
With the launch of Skoda Kushaq, the sales numbers for Skoda in India has jumped by a few folds and this holds true even in February 2022 as the Skoda Kushaq SUV still retains the top spot in terms of sales volume.
In February 2022, Skoda sold a total of 4,503 units of its cars in India. In comparison, Skoda only managed to sell just 853 units in February 2021, which results in a YoY sales increase of more than 427 per cent.
Apart from that, the launch of Skoda Slavia also helped improve the sales in February 2022 compared to January 2022, as Skoda managed to sell just 3,009 units in January 2022. This resulted in an MoM sales increase of almost 50 per cent.
Dissecting the numbers, the Skoda Kushaq sold 2,307 units in February 2022, which is less than the 2,608 units Skoda managed to sell in January 2022. This means the Skoda Kushaq’s MoM sales dipped by almost 12 per cent.
However, this dip in MoM performance could be attributed to the launch of the new Skoda Slavia in the market.
Coming to Skoda Slavia, the new sedan quickly gained traction in the market and sold 1,862 units in February 2022.
Taking the third spot is the Skoda Octavia and Skoda sold 168 units of Skoda Octavia in February 2022, which is 2 units more than what the company managed to sell in January 2022. However, in February 2021, Skoda just sold 2 units of Skoda Octavia.
Skoda sold 99 units of Skoda Superb in February 2022, which in comparison, Skoda sold 235 units in February 2021 and 122 units in January 2022.
Skoda also sold 67 units of Skoda Kodiq in February 2022 to bring up the total sales numbers above 4,000 units. In comparison, Skoda manage to sell just 2 units of Skoda Kodiaq in February 2021 and 113 units in January 2022.
