A thief had no idea he was stealing the ashes of the owner’s mother when he brazenly stole a ute from a Queensland driveway.
A Queensland man has been left heartbroken and injured after he tried to save his ute from being stolen with his mother’s ashes inside.
Logan carpenter Kayden Holmes was loading tools into his white Holden Colorado on Sunday with the key still in the ignition.
CCTV footage taken from a neighbour’s home shows a man getting out of a car nearby and running towards the ute.

He then jumps into Mr Holmes’ ute in the driveway as the tradie turned away and said goodbye to his son.
The clip shows a desperate Mr Holmes running after the car and trying to stop the thief from driving away. Mr Holmes is dragged along the road before falling to the ground.
He was left with an ankle injury after his foot was run over.
While he doesn’t care about losing the car, Mr Holmes is desperate to be reunited with his mother’s ashes.

The ashes have been kept inside a piece of jewellery since her death in 2015. Mr Holmes kept it in the glovebox of the ute for safekeeping.
“The car is replaceable, everything in that car is replaceable, but the ashes aren’t,” he told 7 News.
“I need them back, I don’t want them, I need them.”
The tradie said he kept the ashes in the car because he wanted to have his mother close to him at all times.

Mr Holmes’ partner, Chelsey Orr, took to Facebook in the hopes someone may have information on the thief.
“This car has our whole life in it and some low life scum took it while my partner was on the other side of the car saying goodbye to our son,” she wrote.
Queensland Police is investigating the incident.
