France’s Plastic Omnium is investing €20 million in Verkor that will enable it to develop and manufacture electric battery modules for mobility players. Verkor is developing low-carbon battery manufacturing in France and Europe to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles.
The deal and industrial partnership will enable Plastic Omnium to meet the needs of all electric vehicles: hybrids, plug-in hybrids, battery-powered and fuel cell stack.
The company has also announced a proposed acquisition of ACTIA Power, which designs and manufactures onboard batteries, power electronics and electrification systems for electric and hydrogen hybrid mobility.
By joining Plastic Omnium, ACTIA Power will enjoy technological and commercial benefits through its engagement with the Clean Energy Systems and New Energies divisions.
The negotiation process with parent company ACTIA Group is expected to conclude with a definitive agreement by the end of Q2 2022.
Laurent Favre, Chief Executive Officer of Plastic Omnium, says: “Plastic Omnium is accelerating its commitment to electric mobility by combining a unique component design expertise with a comprehensive range of storage solutions and energy management systems for the entire mobility industry including cars, rail, commercial fleets, trucks and buses.”
Benoît Lemaignan, Chief Executive Officer of Verkor, adds: “This industrial collaboration places Verkor at the center of the electric mobility market and allows us to develop in the utility vehicle and stationary storage markets. Verkor is proud to work with Plastic Omnium, a major innovative player in mobility and industry, with a long-term strategy for the future.”
Since 2015, Plastic Omnium’s continued investment in hydrogen has enabled the company to offer a comprehensive range of hydrogen storage tanks, fuel cells and hydrogen
