VW has unveiled the new Polo, which features a sharper design and a digital cockpit fitted as standard.
The car is set to go on pre-order sales in May, and VW South Africa has confirmed that the new Polo will be available in the country from “early 2022”.
As part of the upgrades to the car, VW said it will now come with LED headlights and taillights as standard.
A new design has been implemented at the front and rear, too, and the car’s main comfort functions – such as infotainment systems and air conditioning – will be controlled via touch displays.
“The range of standard equipment has been expanded significantly,” said VW.
“In addition, the Polo now offers partly automated driving across its entire speed range thanks to the optional IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist system.”
This uses the Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist systems to “create a new assist system that enables partly automated driving”.
“Another new addition is the centre airbag. Located on the driver side on the side of the rear seat backrest, this airbag opens toward the centre in the event of an accident, protecting the driver and front passenger,” said VW.
The line-up
VW said it has reconfigured the specification packages for the new line-up, which consists of the Polo, Life, Style, and R-Line trim levels.
Across the range there will be the inclusions of an air conditioning system, digital instrument cluster on an 8-inch display, Bluetooth, and electric side mirrors with heating functionality.
On the Life trim, customers will receive 15-inch wheels – up from 14-inch on the standard model – and leather trim on the steering wheel and gear knob.
The premium trim options, the Style and R-Line, feature upgraded headlights, 15-inch Ronda alloy wheels, park distance control, and a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro system.
The R-Line then receives additional styling enhancements, with sporty bumpers, gloss-black exterior design elements and diffuser, chrome-look integrated exhaust panels, and 16-inch Valencia alloy wheels.
