Tata Motors has now released a new teaser video that reveals the new Opera Blue exterior paint and the exhaust note of the upcoming Tata Altroz DCA.
Speaking about Tata Altroz DCA, it is the much-awaited automatic variant of the Tata Altroz premium hatchback – where the ‘DCA’ stands for Dual Clutch Automatic.
According to sources, the Tata Altroz DCA could be priced at Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 more expensive than the equivalent manual variant. Apart from that, the Tata Altroz DCA is the company’s first car to be offered with a Dual-Clutch Automatic transmission and the second vehicle in its segment to be offered with the Dual-Clutch Automatic transmission.
Apart from that, Tata Motors has confirmed that the new Tata Altroz DCA will be available in the #Dark range and will also be made available in a wide range of standard colours such as Arcade Grey, Avenue White, Downtown Red, and Harbour Blue colour.
However, Tata Motors has officially confirmed that the Tata Altroz DCA will be available in the top three trim levels only – XT, XZ, and XZ+. This means the starting price for a Tata Altroz automatic could be a bit higher. Also, with the more advanced DCT unit in the automatic variant of the Tata Altroz, the premium hatchback is expected to weigh just around 20kgs heavier than the equivalent manual variant.
Speaking about the Tata Altroz, it is the safest hatchback in the country with a 5-star safety rating for adult occupant protection- thanks to the hatchback’s ALFA-ARC platform.
Apart from that, the Tata Altorz is one of the best-selling hatchbacks in the country despite not having the option for an automatic gearbox.
In addition to that, Tata Altroz DCA is a generously well-equipped premium hatchback and comes with features such as iRA connected car technology, a touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch TFT digital instrument cluster, automatic headlamps, leather upholstery, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, push-button start-stop, etc.
In addition to these features, Tata Motors has also added features such as cruise control, rear AC vents, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming IRVMs, automatic climate control, air purifier, and many more.
Unlike the expectation, the automatic variant of the Tata Altroz uses the same naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine as its manual variant. This engine is a 3-cylinder unit with 85bhp of peak power at 6,000rpm and 113Nm of peak torque at 3,300rpm.
However, as per the expectations of many enthusiasts, Tata Motors may introduce a more powerful 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine to pair with this transmission. This 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron engine produces 108bhp of peak power at 5,500rpm and 140Nm of peak torque at 1,500 rpm in the bigger Tata Nexon SUV.
However, there is no automatic variant for the diesel version of the Tata Altroz, and the diesel unit in the Tata Altroz is a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder unit with 90bhp at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,250rpm. In future, Tata Motors could use a 6-speed AMT gearbox or a torque convertor gearbox to pair up with this engine.
Thoughts About Tata Altroz DCA
Despite the lack of automatic transmission, Tata Altroz has shown strong sales performance in its segment. Now, with the addition of an automatic transmission variant, the Tata Altroz could rack up even more sales, especially in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities.
