Chery South Africa has said it will launch the Tiggo 4 Pro in the country in the fourth quarter of 2021.
This follows the announcement that the Chinese automaker opened its first wholly-owned subsidiary in Africa – Chery South Africa.
Chery said it will establish 30 dealerships in the country before the end of the year, and that it will offer new vehicles that will “surprise even the most avid car fan”.
The first of these new cars is the Tiggo 4 Pro.
Below, we look at the markets where the Tiggo 4 Pro is already available to see what we can expect when it arrives.
What to expect
The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro is a small SUV that measures 4,298mm long, 1,830mm wide, and 1,670mm tall – making it roughly the same size as the VW T-Roc.
Inside, it comes with a leather multifunction steering wheel, electric windows, automatic headlights, cruise control, push-button start, air conditioning, a 3.5-inch or 7-inch LCD display in the instrument cluster, and a 9-inch infotainment display with Bluetooth support and Chery’s version of smartphone mirroring.
Certain range-topping models are also fitted with a sunroof, an electric driver seat, keyless entry and start, rear aircon vents, and hand gesture recognition on the central display that lets you control infotainment features without touching the screen.
In terms of safety systems, the Tiggo 4 Pro offers an “all-round” airbag system, a tyre pressure monitoring system, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and hill start and descent assist.
In international markets, the Tiggo 4 Pro is available with either a 1.5-litre, turbo-petrol engine or a 2.0-litre, naturally aspirated, petrol motor.
The turbocharged engine connects to a six-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission and develops 108kW and 210Nm.
The 2.0-litre motor pairs to either a five-speed manual or seven-step CVT transmission, and generates 90kW and 180Nm.
Pricing
Chery has not released pricing for the Tiggo 4 Pro in South Africa.
In Kuwait, the Tiggo 4 Pro has a starting price of KWD4,333 – which equates to roughly R216,000.
