George’s TV Listings for Race Fans makes its debut on wheels.ca
I didn’t want to say anything official until it was up and running but those of us here at wheels.ca are proud to announce that George Webster’s popular TV Listings for Race Fans feature will appear on our website this season.
The listings, which started last Wednesday, Feb. 2, and run through Sun., Feb. 13, will be updated each week to keep race fans fully informed as to what’s available to watch and where to find it.
Known as George’s list, it’s been prepared for years by George Webster, a retired teacher from Oakville, Ontario, and published on various websites. We are lucky to have him now because he has a large and loyal following.
Now, a word: please do not copy the file and distribute it on your personal mailing list. This has happened in the past and really doesn’t do anybody any good. Newspapers and websites know their readership – who’s reading what – by the number of clicks a story or feature gets. Yes, I know some people look down their noses at what’s known as “click bait” but that’s the way it is. If people are copying a file, such as George’s, and sending it off to their friends, it is robbing George of clicks. If he doesn’t generate clicks, the paper or website has every right to ask, ‘Why are we paying for this?’ And then it won’t be here, and we’ll all suffer.
So, if anyone asks you where you can find TV listings for race fans, just tell them to go to wheels.ca and they will be there, front and centre.
Thank you for reading this and thanks for your interest in George’s listings for race fans.
NASCAR CLASH A POSITIVE SURPRISE
Like a lot of people, I was convinced that NASCAR’s Busch Light Clash, which was run Sunday on a special quarter-mile track built inside the L.A. Coliseum, was just a gimmick.
Boy, was I wrong.
I didn’t think anybody would attend. Los Angeles is like the French Riviera and everywhere you look people are driving around in Ferraris and McLarens and all the other exotic sports and touring cars available to drive on the road. In short, it is not seen as a stock car town.
But nobody told that to the upwards of 100,000 fans who turned out to watch Joey Logano win the 75-lap race, with Kyle Busch second and Austin Dillon third. It was a surprisingly clean race, too. In fact, singer Blake Shelton, during an appearance in the booth before the race, told Mike Joy, Tony Stewart and Clint Bowyer that it was the perfect race to take your kids because “there’s a wreck every lap.” That, of course, didn’t happen.
More than 40 laps were run under green before Denny Hamlin turned Ricky Stenhouse Jr. around. Ryan Blaney and Erik Jones had a little argument (Blaney threw his HANS device at Jones’s car) and rookie Justin Haley showed his talent by dominating many of the early laps until Kyle Larson knocked him up the track and into the wall.
But nobody was hurt and even the property damage on the new cars (beautiful, eh?) was negligible because the track was so short, the drivers really couldn’t get going fast enough to do any damage.

Nothing is happening for a couple of weeks, so I won’t write this report next Monday. See you in two weeks – when the Super Bowl excitement has died down and the Daytona 500 has received the checkers.
