Montreal is to invest a staggering $885 million in new charging stations for EVs, eBikes, and city vehicles over the next three years.
“When we look at the sectors that emit the most greenhouse gases, transportation is at the top of the list,” Plante said on Monday.
The plans will see more electric buses added to the city’s fleet, with upgrades to existing garages to support the new models.
The city’s bike-share service, Bixi, will receive an additional 2,100 electric bikes within three years. At the moment, only 20% of Bixi bikes offer electrical assistance.
The city will also add an extra 1,000 EV charging points, on top of the 1,000 it has added since 2014.

The city also said it would support businesses looking to install private charging stations and will be taking measures to facilitate home charging in apartment blocks. The mayor also said that electric vehicles will get priority parking in some metered areas.
The city of Montreal will also be looking to replace its fleet of subcompact vehicles at the end of their life with similar electric models and will be looking to replace any other vehicles with electric or more eco-responsible models, according to a statement.
