Chinese brand’s top-selling MG3 and ZS now $500 pricier; further hikes of up to $2000 to accompany MY22 arrivals
MG Motor Australia has implemented the first in a series of price increases across its model range as the cost of raw materials rise and transport logistics become more complicated.
Introduced today (February 1), the bulk of the price increases apply to the MG3 light hatch and the MG ZS/ZST compact SUV line-ups, and range between $500-$1000 depending on the variant.
As you can see from the MY21 price list below, the entry-level MG ZST Core and MG ZS EV (Australia’s cheapest electric vehicle) small SUVs and the MG HS mid-size SUV range are the only models not affected at this stage, except for the range-topping MG HS + EV plug-in hybrid, which has gone up $1000.

While price increases like this are hardly uncommon in the current automotive climate, MG has carved a considerable niche for itself Down Under in part thanks to its budget pricing structure.
And the Chinese brand says it will lift prices by up to $2000 across the board when fresh stocks of its updated MY22 portfolio arrive in April.
That means the affected models here will have risen by as much as $3000 in the space of three months.
“In the face of unprecedented cost increases in raw materials and transport logistics in 2021, MG Motor will revise its national driveaway pricing from February 1,” an MG Motor Australia said in a statement.

“Adjustments of between $500 and $1000 will be made to a number of 2021-built vehicles, while 2022-built vehicles will be adjusted by between $1000 and $2000.”
In an attempt to offset the price hikes, MG Australia has promised “a personalised gift from CEO Peter Ciao” for every customer who buys a new MG in the first quarter of 2022.
As we alluded to earlier, MG isn’t the only budget brand being forced to up its prices; just last month GWM Haval Australia announced a series of similar increases for its locally offered GWM Ute, Haval H6 and Haval Jolion.
