We all love a fast diesel, and BMW seem to be especially good at that, with their exceptional oil-burning straight-sixes mated to ZF’s inimitable 8-speed automatic transmission proving to be a fine pairing.
Add to that combination the 7 Series’ supple suspension and cossetting interior and you have what some might call the perfect bahnstormer – a long-distance cruiser without peer.
German tuners, Manhart, think otherwise, however, which is why they have beaten the 7 Series with their tuning stick. As result, the Manhart MH7 400D boasts 302 kW and 790 N.m from its 3,0-litre 6-cylinder twin-turbocharged diesel motor. This notable increase in power and torque is achieved by means of in-house ECU remapping, as well as Manhart’s turbo performance kit and turbocharger upgrade. The aforementioned 8-speed automatic transmission receives an upgrade, too, however the exhaust system is left as standard. This can be changed upon special request, however.
As for the exterior, the MH7 400D features a lowered factory air-suspension system with new coupling rods, as well as 22-inch Manhart Venturi alloy wheels in each corner, bolted to 15 mm H&R spacers. Additionally, a carbon fibre lip spoiler adorns the front of the ‘7, a carbon fibre boot spoiler and Manhart’s signature decorative striped and lettering to round the package off.
