Trucks aren’t just for hauling or towing anymore. Utility is frequently traded for customization and a form of artistry that makes a truck stand out from the crowd. Depending on how far they want to take it, owners might spend between a few thousand dollars to tens of thousands. Some custom trucks can be the exotic car equivalent and totally unique.
If you’re a new truck owner wanting to stand out, there are some basic options to get you started that won’t break the bank. Whereas a good lift kit can be spendy, let’s start with three options that break the bank.
Truck Wheels and Rims
Truck wheels and rims are essential for setting a truck apart. Custom truck wheels are instantly noticed, attractive to anyone, and really show that your truck is important to you. Designs can be the blacked-out look, Raptor or Shelby style, or a 6 lug milled look. Finishes can be gloss, matte, satin, black, bronze, or chrome. Whatever the look you’re envisioning for your truck, you’ll find it.
Wheels usually serve to make a truck look more aggressive, and few things do so more than increasing wheel size for an off-road look. If your truck has room for larger wheels or has been lifted, fewer things can really make it look that aggressive. Large, low-profile wheels can be used for an incredible street look. New wheels will commonly run you about $1,000 – $1,500.
Grill Guards
Few things say, “This is one serious truck,” like a grill guard. The whole world knows that even polar bears will get out of your way and trees are just minor inconveniences. A variety of looks exist, usually tailored for each specific model of truck. Black tends to be the color of choice for an aggressive look, although some chrome guards are available. Polished stainless steel sets a truck apart for significant differentiation that could look great with specific wheels.
Look out for quality if you plan to use it for hunting or work purposes, and check that there is adequate clearance to open the hood. Some grill guards also have the option of adding LED lights/fog lights for a really cool look at night. Grill guards may cover just the grill or have a really cool off roading look when having a sloped brush guard.
Grill guards not only look great, but they also aren’t expensive. They can range from several hundred dollars to the thousands for the all-out post-apocalypse ready look.
Exhaust
Sometimes a look also needs to be a scream. A good-looking truck that also sounds great is a complete package. It says the truck owner cares about what is on the outside and under the hood. Exhaust mods also have a subtle impact to the look with their large and shiny exhaust tips that are clearly not stock.
When that excellent exhaust note comes out after you hit the gas pedal, that’s not all you’re getting. Exhaust mods are an easy way to add some power to the truck as improved airflow always means more power. A gain of 2% – 5% may not sound like a lot, but it can be when dealing with a torquey truck. High-end exhaust mods will claim as much as 10% increases, which is a massive difference.
These are just three ways to customize your truck that have a significant impact. We could easily add more. An entire industry exists for customizing trucks, and you can find everything from new lights to lifts to bed extenders. If you want a specific look, there is a product to help you accomplish it, and many are not very expensive, like the three listed here.
Here’s to your truck becoming unique like you!
