For £110,000, about the price of a Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo, you can have ‘Britain’s fastest SUV’ in the shape of the Lister Stealth. It’s a Jaguar F-Pace SVR taken through a series of performance and aerodynamic upgrades, resulting in a devilish 666bhp, a 0-62mph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 195mph.
For reference, the aforementioned Porsche has 542bhp, a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds and a 177mph top speed. And, let’s be honest, as lovely as a Cayenne Coupe is, few will pay attention to it on the streets like they will this Lister.
So what’s a Lister? Good question. Founded in the mid 1950s, the Lister Motor Company started as a niche race car manufacturer and didn’t make its first road car proper until the Lister Storm (below) in 1992, a re-bodied Jaguar XJR with a 7.0-litre V12 engine. It was for a time (reportedly) the fastest four-seat car in the world.
To make the Stealth, Lister takes a Jaguar F-Pace SVR (list price £75,000), fettles the supercharger of the 5.0-litre V8 engine, exchanges the intercooler for a larger one, and revises the engine management software. The exhaust system is new too, made from stainless steel and with carbon fibre pipe tips which, we’re told, produces a “thunderous” noise.
Lister CEO Lawrence Whittaker said: “Creating Britain’s fastest SUV is not without its challenges, but our in-house design and development team have created a truly unique and world-class product with the Lister Stealth. The launch of the Stealth continues our track record of creating bespoke, beautiful cars that major on performance, luxury and most of all owner and driver enjoyment, with a price point that significantly undercuts the competitors in this marketplace.”
The changes may not seem like much but the result is around 120bhp more than the stock Jag F-Pace SVR.
The bodywork modifications are hand built, comprising a carbon fibre front bumper and rear diffuser, both of which make the car look lower and wider as a trick of their aesthetic. The wheels are exchanged for 23-inch items, and housing an uprated brake system.
Inside the overhaul is subtle but enough to distinguish this out as something special, with buyers getting a Nappa leather upholstery replacement in one of 36 colours, with three times that choice for the contrasting stitching that goes onto the seatbelts, steering wheel, roof lining and dashboard.
