Jockey Jim Byrne ended up in the stewards’ room after being beaten on odds-on Tony Gollan favourite Palladas at Doomben – but was quick to put his hand up and blame himself.
It was a horror watch for favourite backers in the Doomben straight when Byrne tried to force a run on Palladas ($1.90) in the Class 3 Plate.
Group 1-winning jockey Byrne was lucky to stay aboard his mount when he tried to squeeze between $201 roughie General Wolfe (ridden by Tegan Harrison) and Vitesse Francais (James Orman).
Safework gets there at $13.

Palladas became unbalanced and lost any chance of winning before regathering himself and surging home to finish third.
“By the grace of God you stayed up (didn’t fall),” chief steward Peter Chadwick told Byrne in the stewards’ room.
Byrne took full responsibility for the incident.
“I’ll be honest, I can’t blame any other rider,” Byrne told Chadwick.
“It was one of those scenarios I wish I had again.”
Scott Morrisey-trained Safework ($11) was the big beneficiary of the incident, with jockey Boris Thornton taking full advantage to scoot up along the fence and get the chocolates.
It was a race premier Queensland trainer Gollan will want to forget in a hurry with his other runner, second favourite Glitter Strip, running home for second with the terribly unlucky Palladas just behind.
Chadwick warned Byrne to take more care in future.
