KUALA LUMPUR: The commercial vehicles market just got a little more competitive with the Italian truck manufacturer Industrial Vehicles Corporation (Iveco) looking to make serious headway into the Malaysian market.
Iveco and Federal Auto Holdings have entered an exclusive partnership that will see the introduction of the Italian manufacturer’s full range of vehicles and services along with complete solutions for the commercial vehicles industry.
The vehicles in mention, equipped with Euro three compliant engines, are the Iveco Stralis and 682 heavy commercial vehicles as well as the Trakker off-road truck, Eurocargo medium truck and the new Daily light commercial vehicle.
In the partnership with Federal Auto Holdings, the company will take on the duties of market strategy and development and will also include training programmes to ensure customer service standards are met.
All products and model variants will be rolled out in stages over the next 18 months, beginning with the new Daily, which is expected to go up against the Ford Transit.
The Daily, equipped with a 146hp 3.0-litre F1C diesel engine, is expected to be Iveco’s best seller, especially after having won the 2015 International Van of the Year award and will be available as a panel/window van as well as a Chassis cab model.
The 44-tonne Iveco Stralis with a 430hp 10.3-litre inline six-cylinder diesel engine is popularly used in the haulage industry and comes in three variants, beginning with the 4×2 tractor with air suspension or as a rough road version.
Next comes the 6×2 tractor with an air suspension or the optional twin wheels or with a third rear lift axle, while the 6×4 tractor is only available with the air suspension.
The Iveco 682 heavy-duty truck has two engine options for choice – an 8.7-litre inline six-cylinder diesel cursor 9 engine (290hp, 340hp or 380hp versions) or a 12.8-litre inline six-cylinder cursor 13 diesel engine (430hp or 480hp versrions).
The 60-tonne Iveco Trakker is a high performance truck designed to operate in off-road conditions such as mining or construction industries and comes with a 420hp 12.8-litre inline six-cylinder cursor 13 diesel engine for the 6×4 tractor model.
Lastly, the 18-tonne Iveco Eurocargo medium truck is available as an on-road 4×2 truck model equipped with a mechanical suspension and is powered by a 290hp 5.9-litre inline six-cylinder tector 6 diesel engine.
“We are confident that discerning fleet and transport operators and business owners in Malaysia will appreciate the proven quality, durability, reliability and, most importantly, the cost-efficiency of Iveco products,” said APAC Iveco brand leader Michele Lombardi.
