Here’s a first look at the 2022 Husqvarna Norden 901 in Malaysia, with an indicative price tag of around RM100,000 pending approval. Currently pending VTA certification, the Norden 901 will only be available as a CBU motorcycle with a very limited quantity for sale in Malaysia with information having it at around 10 units and we must say, the Norden 901 looks a lot better in real life than it does in photos or video.
As Husqvarna’s first foray into the large displacement adventure-touring motorcycle market, the Norden 901 shares its DNA with parent company KTM’s 890 Adventure. Power comes from a liquid-cooled, DOHC parallel-twin displacing 889 cc that produces 105 hp at 8,000 rpm and 100 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm.
Tipping the scales at 204 kg without fuel and 19-litres of fuel carried low on the bike aside the engine, the Norden 901 belies its weight with a short spin proving it has both the handling and power to spare for the dedicated adventure-touring rider. The 21-inch front wheel and 18-inch rear indicate the Norden 901 is biased more towards the off-road side of things, as opposed to being a road-going mile muncher.
Twin four-piston callipers with 320 mm diameter brake discs stop the front wheel while the rear wheel gets a two-piston calliper with 260 mm disc. Bosch 9.1 ME cornering ABS is standard, coming with an offroad mode and can be disengaged for true offroad riding, as is three ride modes – Street, Rain and Offroad – with Explorer mode being an optional extra.
Suspension is done with a 43 mm diameter WP Apex upside-down fork in front, fully adjustable for compression, rebound and preload, while the rear end of the Norden 901 is held up with a AP Apex monoshock, adjustable for rebound and preload. A TFT-LCD display is found inside the cockpit, while riding conveniences include a charging socket in the front cowl and cruise control while the windshield is non-adjustable.
