In town for the Miami Grand Prix? Here are a few things to check out away from the track.

The Miami Grand Prix is not just the first new Formula 1 race in the United States since the USGP came to the Circuit of the Americas in 2012, it is the first new F1 race in the U.S. since Drive to Survive’s cultural moment. The most recent USGP was a three-day sellout with a record crowd, but Miami is going to be something else entirely. This is an event, the perfect confluence of a sport having its moment in the U.S. and a city angling to become the world capitol of luxury goods. The result is a Super Bowl-like level of activation near the track, a far cry from the American GPs of generations past. If you’re headed to the race this weekend, be on the look out for a few of these events away from the track.
TAG Heuer’s Pop-Up Karting Track
Just like F1, watchmaker TAG Heuer, a title sponsor of Red Bull Racing, has built a temporary track of its own. Theirs is a kart track in the Miami Design District, just outside of their boutique. The track is open through Saturday to the general public, and the top ten from the first four days of running will be invited to an exclusive party at the track on Saturday. Time at the track can be booked here. TAG did note that the cocktail party will be hosted by its team of ambassadors, which include some people you may have heard of (namely Max Verstappen and Checo Perez).
Off The Grid
Crypto exchange and Mercedes F1 partner FTX is sponsoring Off The Grid, a massive takeover of some three city blocks of beachside land. The event has a variety of exhibits, but the standout is a Mercedes AMG F1 car scheduled to do a demo down Ocean Drive on both Saturday and Sunday. The car will also be on display during the afternoon, all three days of the race weekend.
Miami Speed Week
In Bayfront Park, another takeover area for the race features a wide variety of live entertainment and a pit stop challenge. This event is ticketed, but a panel of Indianapolis 500 winners on Saturday may be worth the price of admission. Emmerson Fittipaldi, Helio Castroneves, and Juan Pablo Montoya are all scheduled for that conversation.
