South Africa’s cheapest car, the Bajaj Qute, has sold 113 units since it went on sale in 2017.
This year is shaping up to be one the Qute’s best, as 42 units have been sold in 2021 so far.
The Bajaj Qute currently has a price of R75,000 and is available on monthly instalments of approximately R2,000 through a bank, Bajaj South Africa told TopAuto.
Bajaj Qute specs
The Bajaj Qute was homologated by the NRCS in South Africa, meaning it is fully roadworthy and classified as a car.
As such, you will need a Code 8 driver’s licence or above to drive it on local roads.
The Qute can carry up to four people – driver included – and is allowed to drive on any road in the country, including freeways.
Top speed for this little car is rated at 70km/h, with its 8-litre petrol tank offering a range of roughly 250km.
It can also scale inclines of up to 11.3 degrees in first gear.
Bajaj said the Qute is also eco-friendly – with 66g/km of CO2 emissions produced – while total cargo capacity comes in at 850 litres when the rear seats are folded flat and roof rack fully utilised.
Kerb weight for the small four-door then comes in at a mere 400kg.
The Qute measures 2,752mm long, 1,312mm wide, and 1,652mm tall, with a turning radius of 3.5m.
Inside, the Qute is rather barebones when compared to a conventional car, but still offers a few niceties to make your daily trips more enjoyable.
This includes a radio system, mechanical power steering, and sliding windows.
