Classic cars, bikes and trucks to descend on Winton Motor Raceway as annual motorsport event continues
Winton’s annual race event for historic vehicles will return in May for its 45th year, marking a particularly special year for the Austin 7 Club, which helps present and organise the huge event.
Described as Australia’s longest-running and most popular all-historic motorsport event, Historic Winton is held annually (pandemic-permitting) at Winton Motor Raceway near Benalla in north-east Victoria.
After a COVID-related hiatus, an array of historic cars, motorcycles, sidecars, trucks, buses, caravans and more will be raced and showcased on the weekend of May 28-29, which is shaping as one of the largest sporting events in rural Victoria, as well as a family-friendly event.

Organiser and president of the Austin 7 Club, Len Kerwood, said the club was thrilled to return to Winton, albeit with COVID-safe measures in place.
“This year, it is a Winton Motor Raceway policy that proof of vaccination (or exemption) is shown at the gate on entry,” he said.

“Spectators will see more than 40 historic car, motorcycle and sidecar races and the traditional Sunday Parade Lap of selected display vehicles.”

This year’s running is of particular significance to the Austin 7 Club, as it also marks the 50th year holding historic motorsport events at Winton.
Before Historic Winton was born, the club ran sprints and time trial events at the venue, with keen interest forming the foundation for the Historic Winton event we know today.

“Historic Winton has been renowned for a special camaraderie for decades, with many ongoing interstate friendships made at the track,” said Kerwood.
Camping is yet again available over the weekend, at a cost of $50 per person, while entry tickets are priced at $35 per adult (under 17s are free) when purchased online.
