A 32-year-old man, working as a hotel manager, was arrested for stealing a customer’s debit card and withdrawing over Rs 1 lakh to buy gold jewellery in Gurugram.
According to a report published in The Times of India (TOI), the victim was intoxicated and the accused, Sonu Kumar, took advantage of the situation and stole the debit card.
The accused was arrested after the crime unit examined the CCTV footage of the ATM kiosk and the jewellery shop. The police also recovered the gold from the possession of the accused.
On December 3 last year, the victim, Vivek Yadav, had filed a complaint that someone had used his debit card and withdrawn over Rs 1 lakh.
During the investigation, it came to light that Vivek had stayed at the hotel for three days, where Sonu Kumar was working. Yadav was drunk when the accused asked him to pay the hotel bill. That is when he stole the debit card.
A case was registered under sections 379 (Punishment for theft) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the IPC.
