Citroen sub-brand DS Automobiles has announced it will only sell electric cars from 2024 onwards.
While the brand currently offers an electric version of all its current models, from 2024, the petrol and diesel versions will disappear altogether.
“The next developments in legislation and the EV ecosystem provide opportunities that we want to offer to our customers who already like our electrified range,” says Béatrice Foucher.
“I took the decision to speed up the development to create a new 100% electric art of travel, desirable in terms of enjoyment and remarkable in terms of quality and performance; a new art of travel, steadfastly high tech and still just as refined. It is a daring plan that will take shape from 2024.”
In 2020, DS Automobiles was apparently the leading multi-energy brand in Europe with the lowest average CO2 emissions (83.1 g/km), thanks to its electrified range making up 30% of registrations.
DS Automobiles will also be offering a new version of the DS 4 from 2024. The new model will be based on Stellatis’ (DS and Citroen’s parent) STLA MEDIUM platform and promises a range of more than 400 miles.
The brand also promises to be active in Formula E until 2026, promising that the development of a new generation of an even more powerful and efficient single-seat race car will have benefits for the new and existing production models.
DS Automobiles also says that it is “working on reducing the carbon footprint of its vehicle production” and that “more ambitious research is continuing as part of an involvement in energy transition through the development of innovative materials.”
