The crossover SUV market is hotter than ever. There is a gang of models and trims for every need your family requires. Consumer Reports just revealed its Top 10 Best Crossover SUVs for 2022. Not surprisingly, the 2022 winners are new vehicles never before seen on this list. There is also a new listing we’ll get to later.
Some makes worthy of making the list were rejected because they don’t come standard with forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian protection. CR insists on these features due to their proven life-saving advantages. The consumer site also added two points for vehicles with driver monitoring as well.
The Subaru Forester won the overall pick as best 2022 SUV

First off, Consumer Reports’ top crossover pick for 2022 is the Subaru Forester. The Forester gets accolades for “efficient, spacious design, strong fuel economy, focus on safety, test performance, and its great reliability record over the past few years. In fact, the Forester has landed on the list for the past nine years, attesting to its popularity and history. The past two years it was ranked number three on the overall list. One of the keys to outranking the rest is its EyeSight safety feature package.
For subcompact SUVs, the Nissan Rogue took top honors

In the subcompact SUV category, the 2022 Nissan Rogue took the top honors. Quiet cabin levels and smooth ride belie its price and size. Especially for its price, the Rogue comes with a long list of safety features that include rear automatic braking on all trims. Rogue prices range from $24,460 to $30,500.
Toyota’s RAV4 is again on the ‘Best Of’ list

Moving up in size from the Rogue is the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime two-row hybrid crossover. With the Prime package, you get more power, more efficiency, a smooth ride, and a more welcoming interior. With the added hybrid system, the RAV4 gets 302 hp, the most power for the small SUV segment.
Consumer Reports gave the Kia Telluride glowing praise

For three-row SUVs, the Kia Telluride beat the rest. CR says it “has set the standard for the popular midsize three-row SUV market.” Consumer Reports gave it almost a perfect score of 97 out of 100 points in road tests. Since 2020, owner satisfaction has also been high. The V6 engine is both strong and smooth, hooked to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Plenty of room for the driver, passengers, and cargo, also adds to its high points.
For the EV SUV segment, the Mustang tops them all

For the electric vehicle segment, the Mustang Mach-E was the runaway favorite. As a stalking horse for the EV SUV segment, it is a great start by Ford. Convenience, power and quick acceleration, plus a smooth ride are just some of the plusses the Mach-E offers. The Mach-E Premium has a range of just under 300 miles in real-world driving. Other versions go past the 300-mile mark.
Lexus is once again the best luxury SUV for 2022 with the RX

In the luxury SUV category, the 2022 Lexus 450 RX took top honors. With improvements for the suspension and infotainment system from 2021, the RX gives a bit more than before. The 3.5-liter V6 gives the crossover plenty of power and economy. You can upgrade to the 450h adding two electric motors for added power and mileage. CR says the added mileage puts it in the small crossover segment for fuel economy. Prices range from $45,500 to $57,600.
