Juncos Hollinger Racing and Carlin will reportedly enter a technical partnership for 2022, with the former effectively absorbing the latter’s IndyCar assets and personnel into the single-car team.
According to a report from RACER, Carlin will not field its own IndyCar entry this upcoming season, and has instead shifted most of its equipment and team members into JHR’s single car effort.
There had been doubt over Carlin’s IndyCar future throughout the offseason, as there had been no communications from the team and no announcements regarding a driver lineup.
Further fueling those doubts was the fact that Carlin haulers were spotted in the parking lot at JHR a few months ago.
Carlin fielded a single entry in the 2021 season with Max Chilton and Conor Daly splitting duties in the #59. Daly has since found a full time seat with Ed Carpenter Racing for this year, and Chilton is not believed to be participating in IndyCar after six years in the series.
Carlin had been rumored to be looking for a team to partner with at the end of last season, and it appears those efforts will take the form of a technical alliance to help support a team that has ambitions to grow within the sport.
Juncos Hollinger is re-entering IndyCar this season, after having competed in a few races across the 2017, 2018, and 2019 seasons. The team ran a few races at the end of last season as well, in an effort to ramp up operations ahead of its first full season in 2022.
With JHR fielding a rookie driver in Callum Ilott as well as running its first full season, the additional assets and knowledge afforded from a partnership with a team that had nearly 100 IndyCar starts will surely be welcome.
There have not been any official comments on the details of the partnership as of this time.
