Cole rebutted stating that the parking spot his car occupied didn’t have any signpost.
According to media reports, a man in the UK has been issued a fine of £65 because his car’s shadow encroached onto the parking space reserved for the disabled.
Reports state, Matthew Cole – a self-employed gardener, received the fine along with a letter from the Lewisham Council claiming he had parked his car illegally. Images accompanying the letter show Cole’s Silver Ford estate parked in an unmarked bay next to a signposted disabled parking spot. While the car itself seems to be well within the unmarked parking space, its shadow is cast onto the disabled spot.
Cole rebutted stating that the parking spot his car occupied didn’t have any signpost. He also stated that he had parked his car in the same spot on multiple occasions and had never received any ticket or fine. Cole went on to accuse the council of “enforcing something that’s not there”. He appealed the fine and filed a complaint. However, the council rejected it alleging that the car was parked in a spot reserved for disabled badge holders.
Cole then registered a second complaint with the council, which led to the council cancelling his Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). However, they maintained that the disabled signpost covered two parking bays and were reviewing them to help make them clearer to the drivers.
