Britain’s OVO Energy has launched a new electric vehicle charging tariff for EV owners who charge their cars at home.
The new OVO Drive + Anytime electric vehicle charging tariff is now available across the country for OVO customers.
The new tariff splits EV charging from home energy usage – the first of its kind in the UK. By splitting EV charging costs from home electricity costs, customers will be credited back for the amount of electricity saved via smart EV charging every month.
The new tariff offers customers flexibility with a guaranteed rate of just 5p per kWh regardless of the time of day that they’re charging their car. OVO Energy reckons that customers could power their electric cars for just £100 per year – around the same price as two tanks of petrol for most cars.
The flat-rate tariff differs from existing options as customers can pay significantly more to charge their EVs at home during the daytime. This is due to energy spikes and demand changes which can seriously increase the price of electricity.
“Our OVO Drive + Anytime trial in January was a real success and we’re thrilled to be rolling out this pioneering new plan nationwide,” says Chris Russell, MD of OVO Drive.
“To be able to offer our EV-driving customers an affordable and hassle-free way of joining us in our mission to achieve a carbon zero future is amazing. We want to encourage the use of electric vehicles as a carbon-conscious lifestyle choice, and it should be easy and accessible – with the help of Kaluza’s cutting edge technology, our new Drive + Anytime plan embodies that vision perfectly.”
