Bollinger Motors, which has nothing to do with the expensive champagne of the same name, is busy making waves in the electric utility vehicle segments in the United States. Its B1 and B2 trucks are slab-sided machines that exude hardiness, flaunting exposed riveted panels and packing the sort of specs that make keen off-roaders get all giddy with excitement.
where the Bollinger B1 looks like an electric alternative to an old Land Rover Defender or Mercedes G-Wagen, the B2 has been stretched to serve the pick-up truck market, while its Chassis Cab sibling can be fitted with everything from fire fighting equipment to breakdown and towing kit.
Its impressive stuff, with its maker claiming its in-house developed powertrain is good for 614hp, 668 ft-lb 9905Nm) of torque and a punchy 200-mile range. Bollinger even offers a very basic Chass-E, which includes said dual motor and battery set-up but otherwise acts a blank canvas for vehicle manufacturers to get creative with their own body and cabin designs.
To provide a little inspiration, the marque has released images of its Deliver-E concept, which takes its basic platform, pumps power to the front wheels only and offers 70, 105, 140, 175 and 210kWh battery pack options for the widest range of applications.
Thanks to the clever chassis and packaging, the van offers the lowest step-in height on the market, while the flat cargo floor (thanks to the careful packaging of the batteries) and minimal wheel-well intrusion offers a gargantuan load space for cargo.
But it is the shapely design and futuristic lines that make this model really stand out, with Bollinger claiming that aerodynamic body helps “provide exemplary mileage and the most outward visibility of any cargo van or truck”.
Of course, this is merely a concept for now, which is why there’s no sign of a driver’s seat, windscreen wipers or an interior of any sort, but it provides a cool glimpse at what electric fleets could look like in the future. It’s much more aesthetically pleasing than a battered Transit van, whichever way you cut it.
