Micro-mobility group Bird has unveiled its newest e-scooter model, the Bird Three, which it’s calling the World’s most eco-conscious scooter. It has a battery capacity of up to 1 kWh, meaning it requires less frequent charging and delivers more miles travelled on a fully charged battery than any other shared scooter available.
The new model also features the industry’s only Autonomous Emergency Braking system, designed to prevent brake failure.
Bird says it has intentionally designed the scooter to share many of its service parts with Bird Two, cutting back on the need for additional carbon-intensive manufacturing.
The company is planning to go public on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) through a merger with Switchback II, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC).
Scott Rushforth, Bird’s Chief Vehicle Officer, says: “Bird is leading the way in safe, smart and sustainable transportation. Every aspect of the Bird Three has been thoughtfully designed to reduce its environmental impact, beginning with a bigger battery that’s more eco-friendly and can power more rides on a single charge than any other shared scooter.”
Since 2017, Bird’s shared micro-EV service has grown from ten vehicles into a global fleet providing tens of millions of trips to riders in over 200 cities annually. It’s quadrupled the number of micro-mobility trips in the U.S. from 35 million in 2017 to 136 million in 2019.
