California-based electric vehicle manufacturer Biliti Electric Inc (Biliti) has announced that it intends to setup the world’s largest electric three-wheeler factory in the state of Telengana.
The facility will be capable of producing 240,000 electric three-wheelers annualy. Biliti claims that the new plant will drive private investment of $150 million into Telengana and will create 3,000 new jobs in the state.
The new facility will be constructed over two phases over the next two years and will cover a total of 200 acres of land in the state of Telengana. The Phase I production facility will have the ability to produce 18,000 units every year and will cover an area of 13.5 acres. The facility will be operational in early 2023.
The second phase of the production facility will cover the entire 200 acre area and will be able to produce 240,000 electric 3-wheelers every year. The larger facility will become operational in the year 2023.
The new facilites will be used to produce all of the company’s model lineup which include the Taskman (cargo) and Urban (passenger) vehicles. Biliti Electric currently produces its electric three-wheelers thanks to an exclusive partnership with Hyderabad-based Gayam Motor Works (GMW).
Biliti Electric’s Taskman 3-wheeled electric transporter is currently deployed in 15 countries across the world including the Japan, USA, UK, France, Portugal, Germany, Lebanon, Uganda, Kenya, Senegal, Nepal, Bangladesh, UAE and India. The electric Taskman offers a range of 177 kilometres on a single charge. While charging takes three and a half hours buyers can also swap out their Taskman’s battery pack for a fully charged unit thanks to Biliti’s SmartSwapp technology.
Speaking about the upcoming world’s largest electric 3-wheeler manufacturing facility, Telengana Industries Minister KT Rama Rao stated, “When we launched the EV policy two years ago, it was with the mission to make Telangana state a preferred destination for setting up electric vehicle manufacturing. We are now seeing that becoming true with companies like Biliti establishing the world’s largest three-wheeler factory here. This is the largest investment in EV manufacturing announced in the State this year, coming shortly after another California-based company Fisker announced its second headquarters in Hyderabad. The State is committed to promoting clean industries and promises to extend all benefits to the company admissible under the government’s policy. The story of Biliti is not just another opportunity because of the State’s encouraging policy but a realization of the State’s vision for innovation and technology with the founders of the Company directly associated with T-Hub through a previous start-up.”
Rahul Gayam, Biliti Electric’s CEO stated “We are proud to manufacture our exciting EV lineup in Telangana state. The Taskman has already made more than 12 million deliveries worldwide with many more to come. Our batteries and drivetrain are compact and modular in design, allowing them to have wider applications in auto, marine, warehousing, and backup power sectors enabling the buildout of an EV ecosystem.”
Thoughts On Biliti’s Plans For The World’s Largest Electric 3W Facility
Biliti Electric’s annoucement of its intent to build the world’s largest 3-wheeler EV manufacturing plant in Telengana shows just how well the state’s EV friendly policy seems to be doing. Hopefully Fisker and Biliti are just the first of many EV manufacturers turning to India. If other states across the country follow Telengana’s moves, then India could very easily make a case to become a global hub for EV production.
