The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) recently released its vehicle sales numbers report for 2020.
NAAMSA provides trusted automotive data and represents the collective interests of 43 new vehicle brands in the country.
The report lists the best-selling new cars in the country and features many well-known models – including the VW Polo Vivo, which took top spot.
In fact, VW models took six of the top 10 spots for most-sold passenger vehicles.
It must be noted that this segment excludes single or double-cab bakkies.
Multiple models
As part of its detailed reporting, NAAMSA lists sales numbers per individual model.
This includes differentiating between trim levels or engine options per model.
For example: the Polo Vivo 1.4 Trendline and Polo Vivo 1.4 Comfortline are listed individually – and occupy first and second spot on the best-seller list.
Thanks to its strong performance during the year, VW took the first, second, third, fourth, and ninth positions with the Polo Vivo and Polo.
To provide a broader overview of the best-selling cars in South Africa, we have grouped trim levels and engine options per model together into a single bracket.
The sales numbers of these individual trim levels and engine options have then been added together to provide a total sales figure per model.
