New survey suggests that Australian’s are keen to hit the road for a much-deserved holiday break with the hope the Easter Bunny will find them wherever they choose to road trip to.
The latest survey results from carsales of 583 members suggest 44% are planning to travel over the Easter holiday break while 22% are still unsure whether they’ll be staying at home or hitting the road over the extra-long weekend this year.
Most Aussie Easter holiday goers stated that they will be away for up to a week (70%), taking advantage of the extra two days of holidays on top of the weekend. While 21% will have a break of 1-2 weeks in total, taking a few extra days off in the week after Easter to include the ANZAC Day long weekend.
The beach (33%), the country/bush/farm (28%) and city escapes (10%) are among the most popular choices of holiday destinations with 16% of respondents saying they’ll mix it up and vary their holiday between several locations. Of those deciding to take a break, a majority (88%) are going by car for their travels, followed by 7% who are heading to their destination by plane.
Almost half (46%) of people surveyed said that it’ll take them between 3-5 hours to get to their destination, while 22% will travel for 6 or more hours to get to their holiday break.
With so many Aussies hitting the roads and the nation’s highways over this period, it is a great reminder to take the time for some car maintenance and general driver and passenger safety checks before heading off.
Top tips before heading off on your Easter road trip:
- Check and adjust your tyre pressure and check the tread-depths
- Check your vital fluids including fuel, engine oil, coolant and windscreen washer fluid.
- Ensure your car has been properly serviced beforehand
- Take the time to pack your luggage and other holiday gear safely and securely (a loose item flapping or rattling is a major cause of driver distraction)
- Know exactly where you are going, with as much detailed knowledge of the route as possible
- Take regular breaks so you don’t rush the drive
- Keep everyone hydrated and well-fed during the trip (regular snacks can actually prevent travel sickness)
