Typically, these trucks work hard as long as you do, but do you have the right one? The Chevy Silverado 1500 is a pickup we’ve trusted for a long time, but there could be some glaring reasons to leave this model at the dealer and find something a little better.
1. Dated interior design makes the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 feel old
Some of the design elements you see in this truck come from the previous generation. Sure, a few of these items work well and are fairly universal, but it’s not what you expect. If you want modern design elements or upscale materials, look to the Ram 1500 or the Toyota Tundra, which offer modern approaches to the cabin area.
2. This truck doesn’t have an available hybrid or electric powertrain

Yes, there is an electric version of the Chevy Silverado coming, but that’s not for two more years. Right now, this truck doesn’t have any assistance features in the engine compartment to make things better for you. The Ram 1500 delivers the eTorque system using a 48-volt power generator, and the Ford F-150 has an electric version. Why doesn’t the Silverado offer either a hybrid or electric option?
3. Some cabin materials in the Chevy Silverado are cheap
There’s no getting around this fact; the base model has some plastic items in the cabin. If you buy the WT trim to be a work truck, this might not matter to you at all, but if you want more quality, you’ll need to look at higher trims or other trucks. This might not be the biggest drawback of this truck, but it is something to consider.
4. Looking for an off-road challenger, look at other trucks

The 2022 version of the Silverado does have the ZR2 trim, which comes upmarket from the midsize Colorado. According to Kelley Blue Book, this off-road trim doesn’t have the engineering of the Ford F-150 Raptor or the massive power of the Ram 1500 TRX. If you want an off-road beast, you’ll want to check out one of those two trucks.
5. The Chevy Silverado still rides like a truck
Even though this is a full-size truck in the half-ton class, we want our ride to be smooth and compliant, not jarring and stiff. According to Car Buying Strategies, Chevy hasn’t figured out how to smooth out the ride while delivering the performance features we need in this truck. We’ll have to live with feeling every road abrasion in our paths until that time.
6. The tech features remain behind the competition

There are some excellent tech goodies in the Chevy Silverado 1500, but when compared to other trucks in its class, this model falls short. The Ford F-150 brings more safety and driver-assist items to give us a more comprehensive package than the Silverado. GM has made strides in this area, but they still haven’t caught up with the rest of the market.
Should you buy the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500?
The Silverado offers competitive towing at 13,300 pounds, impressive payload capacity at 2,280 pounds, and plenty of power for everything you need to do. If you can get beyond these six items, this could be a good truck for you to drive. If not, check out the Ram 1500, Ford F-150, or Toyota Tundra.
