If you are buying a car and your budget is R75,000, you have a massive range to choose from.
Popular car classifieds site AutoTrader and second-hand car company WeBuyCars have hundreds of vehicles on offer in the R50,000 to R100,000 bracket, making it one of the biggest segments by volume.
When purchasing a car at this price, however, you want to ensure you stick to a few key points to avoid ending up with a lemon.
Buyers are advised to:
- Keep to well-known brands with a strong service and support presence in South Africa.
- Look for a car with as little mileage, and years, on the clock as possible.
- Ensure full service histories have been kept for the car.
It is also prudent to speak to a brand’s nearby dealership to find out what service prices can be for a particular model you have your eye on.
Better yet, find a friend or family member who owns the same car and ask them to share their experiences with owning and running the car.
Lastly, if you have found a car you like which meets your budget, contact an insurance company for an obligation-free quote – with the specific vehicle details on hand – and find out how much the premiums will be.
With this in mind, we searched AutoTrader and WeBuyCars with a budget of R75,000.
These are three of the options we found.
2017 Renault Kwid 1.0 Expression – R75,900
This Renault Kwid comes with 60,000km on the clock and a complete service history.
The listing did note, however, that the car is due for its next service.
Small Renault models were among the most commonly-listed vehicles in our sub-R100,000 second-hand car search.
2017 Datsun Go 1.2 Lux – R78,900
The Datsun Go is a popular budget-friendly vehicle when it comes to new car purchases, and this has carried over to the second-hand market.
This particular model has 43,000km on the clock and a complete service history – with its next service due.
The blue paint job will also ensure you stand out a bit from the crowd.
2015 Kia Picanto 1.0 LX – R70,900
This Kia Picanto has 134,000km on the clock – meaning it has done a lot more driving than the Datsun and Renault options listed above.
It does have a complete service history to its name, however, with its next service due.
There are a couple small dings on the car, but these are not a deal-breaker.
