Don’t Drive Fast

“When your speed is not constant, you use more fuel, and spend more money, than you need to. Use your cruise control for highway driving, where conditions permit,” Mr Starr said.
“Most modern vehicles are fuel-efficient when they are travelling under 90kph.”
These simple tips will ensure the car uses less petrol.
“Gently accelerate away from traffic lights and maintain steady speeds,” Mr Starr said.
“Read the traffic ahead of you to see what it’s doing to avoid sudden braking or speed changes.
“Avoid high speeds and keep to the speed limit.”
Service Your Car
Regular car maintenance may cost money in the short-term, but Mr Starr said you would ultimately save.
“Make sure your tyre pressures are correct. Check them every month so that the rolling resistance is what the manufacturer recommends,” Mr Starr said.
“It’s the same thing with roof racks, bike racks and having heavy items in the boot of the car. If you’re just using the car to run around town, try keep those things off and help reduce a bit of weight to use less fuel.
“Fuel consumption in a mid-size car, for instance, increases by one per cent for every 25 kilos of weight you’re carrying.”
