The demand for electric cars is slowly increasing in India. Moreover, the range anxiety among Indian consumers is on the decline as automakers are introducing new EVs with better range.
Moreover, the adoption of EVs in the two-wheeler segment has already picked up pace in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities.
Volvo XC40 Recharge
Volvo XC40 Recharge is the upcoming electric vehicle from the Swedish automaker, Volvo, and the electric SUV is expected to be launched by the first quarter of 2022. Speaking about the Volvo XC40 Recharge, it will be brought to India as a completely built unit (CBU).
In terms of design, the silhouette remains similar to the standard Volvo XC40, but there are a few elements such as the completely sealed front grille and a few visual markings.
Powering the Volvo XC40 Recharge are a pair of electric motors producing a total of 402bhp of peak power and 660Nm of peak torque. Moreover, these electric motors are powered by a 78kWh battery back.
This powertrain setup enables the Volvo XC40 Recharge to reach 100km/h from a standstill in just 4.9 seconds and cover up to 419kms on a full charge.
Tata Altroz EV
The Tata Nexon EV is currently the best selling electric car in India and Tata Motors is planning to replicate the same success with the launch of the Tata Altroz EV.
Apart from that, the Tata Altroz EV is expected to share the powertrain from Tata Nexon EV and thanks to lower body weight and better aerodynamics, we expect, the Altroz EV to deliver better performance and range than the Tata Nexon EV.
However, it is still not clear whether the upcoming Altroz EV will come with the 30kWh battery pack or a larger 40kWh battery pack, the latter will soon feature in the upcoming updated Nexon EV.
Mahindra KUV 100 Electric
The success of Tata Nexon EV in the Indian market has pushed Mahindra to develop the electric version of Mahindra KUV100. This electric SUV from Mahindra was first showcased at the Auto Expo in 2020.
Thanks to the KUV100 platform, expect the electric version of the upcoming Mahindra KUV100 to be priced aggressively. We expect this electric car to compete with smaller EVs such as the upcoming Tata Tiago EV.
Tata Tiago EV
We expect the Tata Tiago EV to be launched in the Indian market by May 2022, and when launched it is expected to be the most affordable electric car in India.
Despite being the cheapest among electric cars, we expect the Tiago EV to have the same build quality as its petrol-powered counterpart.
Apart from that, the Tata Tiago EV is also likely to use the powertrain as the larger Tata Tigor EV. Thanks to the lower kerb weight, expect the Tiago EV to come with added range and slightly better performance compared to Tata Tigor EV.
Moreover, according to sources, the Tata Tiago EV will be priced anywhere between Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
Tata Nexon EV (40kWh)
Tata Motors is looking forward to launch the updated Tata Nexon EV with a larger 40kWh battery pack. Thanks to this larger battery pack, the Tata Nexon EV is expected to cover more than 400kms on a single charge.
According to sources, the new Tata Nexon EV with its larger battery pack is most likely to sold alongside the current model as a ‘long-range’ version.
