The Brabus 900 Crawler is the latest adventure orientated creation from the German tuner and it takes off-roading to a new level since it’s not actually even legal on public roads. This open air experience comes with quite the opulent price tag of €749,000 before tax.
The Mercedes-AMG G 63 is by no stretch of the imagination lacking in opulence and luxury, for some, this detracts from the utilitarian ability of the preceding Geländewagen. The Brabus 900 Crawler looks to rectify this, for anyone that has said that the AMG G 63 is too demure and incapable of going off-road since the latest creation from the German tuner is not actually legal on public roads. One look at the latest Brabus’ “ultimate desert dunes racer” explains why this is the case. The windowless and doorless model was compromise free when it came to pure off-road capability, so the requirement completely removed the necessity for a number plate at all. Of course, the bespoke carbon fibre bodywork which only signifies the model on which it is based isn’t the only thing that the German tuner has tinkered with. The Brabus 900 Crawler comes with a whopping 530 mm of ground clearance which should make it capable of traversing rocks and uneven surface with ease. It is also equipped with portal axles which increase the height of the differenails and mechanical gear, further improving the technical terrain capability. In addition, bespoke height adjustable struts have up to 160 mm worth of spring travel to aid this.Connecting the four corners to the ground are 20-inch rims wrapped in 40×13.50 off-road tyres and propelling them forward is the twin-turbo Mercedes sourced V8 which has been stroked up to 4,5-litres and is now capable of 662 kW and torque is capped to 1,050 N.m to aid with reliability. The Brabus 900 Crawler can thus do the opposite of its name and dart itself to 100 kmh in 3,4 seconds and reach a limited 160 kmh top speed because of the off-road tyres.
Sounds like a fun toy for the weekend which only 15 owners will get to own, just be prepared to explain to your accountant or wife why a R12 Million rand bespoke desert dune racer is worth the money.
